Heather Couch is an artist working in ceramic sculpture and mixed media installation. Working with the concept of gestural or unstable structures, she addresses the problem of uncertainty through form and texture. Her works relate the rhythm and anomalies of nature to the structures of our social systems and everyday lives. Through process, material dialogue, and intentional opportunities for chance, she explores what it feels like to embrace unknowns, tension, and disparate perspectives through uneven unity and energetic peaceful compositions. This work is a celebration of awkward and beautiful. A moment for discovery and quiet reflection. It is gritty, strong, fragile, and sensitive... as a suggested model for developing the ability to hold open ended questions.
